چکیده
Most of the existing buildings in seismic prone regions have been built before publication modern design provisions against earthquakes, resulting need for structural retrofitting. Furthermore, some those are also subjected to additional hazards that may be either triggered by earthquakes (e.g., landslides, soil liquefaction, tsunamis) or associated with other natural anthropogenic events, such as floods, vehicle collision, blast, and fire. A multi-hazard performance assessment building structures is thus paramount importance implement integrated retrofit strategies, which otherwise would not economically sustainable if oriented risk mitigation a single hazard. While strategies improve reinforced concrete (RC) widely investigated, retrofitting progressive collapse has received very little attention. Within this context, present paper illustrates numerical investigation on influence robustness four-storey, five-bay, RC frame designed only gravity loads. Seismic were respectively evaluated OpenSees through pushover pushdown analyses fibre-based finite element model. Structural was under two relevant column-removal scenarios, i.e., sudden loss central corner column, whereas earthquake resistance assessed according N2 method, evidencing measure based carbon fibre polymers then considered avoid premature brittle failures. Analysis results show strategy able increase both safety robustness. Subsequently, parametric analysis carried out order evaluate impact beam span length shear strength system.

Effect of Structural Height on the Location of Key Element in Progressive Collapse of RC Structures
After the failure of an element in a structure, its loads should be redistributed on the other elements and the structure must provide some new paths to carry the load. If such new load paths are not provided, collapse progression will begin in the structure. As the beginning of progressive collapse in a structure is more sensitive to the missing of an element, the location of that element is m...

متن کاملProbabilistic Approach to the Seismic Vulnerability of RC Frame Structures by the Development of Analytical Fragility Curves
Fragility curves are very useful in quantifying the physical and economic damage of buildings that have undergone an earthquake. This paper presents the development of analytical fragility curves representative of mid-rise residential structures built with reinforced concrete, taking into account the specific structural characteristics of Algerian buildings. The derivation of the analytical fra...
متن کاملProgressive Collapse of Structures
Local failure of one structural element may result in the failure of another structural element. Failure might thus progress throughout a major part or even all of the structure. After reviewing a couple of failure events, it is outlined why current probabilitybased design codes are inadequate to prevent progressive collapse. It is discussed how these shortcomings might be overcome both within ...
